I so much appreciate the courage displayed by pastor Jeffress. As it says in his video description field, “Dr. Jeffress, Pastor of First Baptist Dallas, calls on Obama and Congress to do whatever is necessary to eradicate the evil of ISIS and radical Islam, and calls all Christians to stand on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world being tortured and martyred for their faith.”
I agree with everything Jeffress said, but may I add the following.
Jeffress is so correct stating that todays ‘church’ is as pathetic as it was during the genocides of the Nazi Holocaust. And yes I agree that this increasing threat of radical Islam will be worse than the holocaust ever was. And yes there is much merit to his criticism of the apathy of the “church.”
However I believe that a large portion of those that attend these buildings that they call “church,” are not saved. In other words, they do not belong to the true church (aka the Bride of Christ). They are the byproducts of easy believism. Yes there is a remnant of the Lords Church that is being “salt and light,” but where’s the rest of the “church?” Sadly too many Pastors are more concerned about local church growth, rather than individual Christian growth.
Even the “evangelism 70-years ago” that Jeffress mentioned is no longer demonstrated today (by the most part). Today, we have many that may talk about evangelism (in their church), but they do nothing about it. To make matters worse, many Christians hide behind their computer mouse complaining about those that do open-air evangelism. Today we have a masculinity crisis within the professed church. Today more and more men are being neutered. Today we have a push for only ‘friendship evangelism,’ and not good old fashioned Biblical evangelism. Folks the local church that emerges, is the church that submerges.
Perhaps you may think I’m being too harsh? Please read the Lord Jesus’ seven letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2&3. Five of those seven churches were rebuked harshly. Then read the very first sin mentioned by Jesus, in His dark list of sins in Revelation 21:8. “But the fearful [cowardly], and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Are you the “cowardly” or the “fearful”? Or are you willing to count the costs, and even die for the cause of Christ right now?
Having said that, I’m not only calling president Obama to a call to arms. I’m calling the lukewarm church to repentance.
