New developments in the murder of Sheriff Buford Pusser’s wife, Pauline Pusser; Buford, aka the Walking Tall legend, who was depicted in the movie Walking Tall and sequels

Background:

On August 12th, 1967, the infamous McNairy County, Tennessee, Sheriff Buford Pusser was enroute to a radio call close to the Mississippi Stateline. On that fateful evening, his wife, Pauline Pusser, was on a ride along with him. According to Sheriff Pusser, they were ambushed by unknown suspect(s), and both were struck by gunfire. Pauline succumbed to her fatal injuries, and Sheriff Pusser was hospitalized until he recovered to later return to full duty. The murder of Pauline was never solved and remained a cold case.

New developments:

Based on new information and forensic science that were not available at the time, they reopened the case. This included a recent exhumation of Pauline’s body and another forensic pathology medical examination performed. It was derelict of duty and unconscionable that an autopsy was never performed beforehand.

Today, David Rausch, Director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and District Attorney General Mark Davidson, as well as others, released the results of their findings. In short. Though they did not say definitively that Sheriff Pusser murdered his wife, Pauline. If he were still alive today, they now have probable cause to seek an indictment for murder.

A side note: Being new to Tennessee, I never understood the celebrity status and excitement of Buford Pusser. Nonetheless, his fans should reconsider their loyalty to him, and the legacy he left behind, as well as the Walking Tall movies, and the latest remake starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Besides, Hollywood always gets it wrong, including the skin colors of Pusser and Johnson (Pusser was white, Johnson black).

Most importantly. Though Sheriff Buford Pusser apparently escaped justice here on earth, he will not escape God’s Divine justice; more about that here.
