Charles H. Spurgeon on alcohol

Spurgeon is one of my favorite ‘mentors at large.’ It is important that we understand the Greek translations for ‘drunkards’ (Methusko and Methuo – video here).

The Lord commands His sheep to holiness, and to be filled with His Holy Spirit, not ‘distilled spirits’ or other ‘spirits.’

I am so thankful that the Lord delivered me from this toxic poison known as ‘alcohol,’ and I pray He does more others as well. Cry out to God and ask Him to, beg Him to.

I am saddened that the older I get in Christ, the less friends I have that desire a true Biblical holiness. But as J.C Ryle said, “Let us seek friends that will stir us up about our prayers, our Bible readings, our use of time, our souls, and our salvation.”

Only by the grace of God so go I.

“Drunkenness is the devil’s back door to hell and everything that is hellish. For he that once gives away his brains to drink is ready to be caught by Satan for anything.” – C. H. Spurgeon.
