Pulling the “legalist” card, what legalism is, and what legalism is not

One of the increasing trends of the emergent church, is dispersing ad-hominem attacks to silence the truth. Or wrongfully pulling the “legalism” card, or “you’re a legalist” card, when the Christian is not being a legalist. Recently a Pastor told me that it was “legalism,” to tell a couple that they were ‘in sexual sin’ for engaging in sex outside of marriage.

As said in another post,

The Bibles commands Christians to “be holy for He is holy,” but the world will call you “holier than thou.” The Bible declares that a Christian is clothed in the imputed righteousness of Christ, but the world will call us “self-righteous.” The Bible commands Christians to “obey the Gospel,” and “keep His commandments,” but the world calls that “legalism.” The Bible commands “All men everywhere to repent,” but the world calls that a “works righteousness” or “Lordship salvation.” The Bible commands Christians to “walk circumspectly,” but the world tries to stumble us. The Bible says the Lord sanctifies His own, but the world says “blend in with the rest of us.” The Bible says that “friendship with the world is enmity with Christ,” but the world says “make friends with the world.” The Bible says that God “hates those who practice sin,” and to “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good,” but the world says “love the sinner, hate the sin.” Oh but wait. That’s not just the world saying this, its many ‘professing’ Christians.

In the below video I discuss what legalism is, and what legalism is not.
