John Piper & Alister Begg preaching at 2024 Shepherds Conference?
With the understandable controversy over Alister Begg preaching at the 2024 Shepherds Conference (more about that here), I decided to look at their speaker lineup.
Egalitarianism
According to the below video, John Piper is an egalitarian. Though the Scriptures forbid a woman to teach, preach, or demonstrate authority over men, and to remain silent in the church (1 Tim 2:12). Piper preaches alongside Beth Moore at the 2012 Passion Conference. As I’ve said before, a little egalitarianism egalitarians the whole lump.
Continuationism
Piper is also a continuationist, who engages in the extra-biblical practice of Lectio Divina and Contemplative Prayer. In the below video, you will also see Piper and Moore doing so alongside Francis Chan, Louie Giglio, and Lecrae.
Though I’m not a MacArthur fan. Why would Grace Community Church put a man like Piper, who is an egalitarian and a continuationist in their pulpit?
So, what’s a solution to this problem? Men, get a refund for the insane amount of money you paid for the Shepherds conference, and as MacArthur said at another conference, I was present at – “Go Home!”

Update 02/01/24: Alister Begg is no longer speaking at the Shepherds conference. However, I have since learned that Begg has preached alongside Beth Moore as well. Gender confusion belongs out in the world, not in the church.

Since Alistair Begg continues to repeat, and not repent from capitulating to the homosexual community, he must be exposed, marked, and avoided. Christians are not called to “build bridges” with the world. We’re not called to be relatable or relevant. We’re to be not of this world. But what should we expect from a man who compromises so much, that he’s welcome to preach in Arminian “churches.” Begg is more evidence of why professing Christians must repent from following celebrity pastors as their so-called “favorite pastors.” Your favorite pastor(s) ought to be the pastors from your local church. Not some online personality that you do not know, and who does not know you.
Apologetics is not defending your favorite celebrity pastor(s). Biblical apologetics is defending and contending (epagōnizomai) for the faith. Which includes earnestly contending for sound doctrine (hugiainō). It means to struggle with intensity. To agonize as a combatant. And we do so for our spiritual well-being and healthier church (1 Pet 3:15, Titus 2:1, Jude 3).
Most “Reformed” FB groups are heavy on memes and quotes from celebrity pastors. But are light on (or absent) content creators. And when you post a blog post or video you created, their administrators don’t let it go through. But if I posted a photo of MacArthur with the quote, “My favorite place is Disneyland,” they’d believe he said that, and they’d share it. The idol worship of these modern-day golden calves has got to stop. Every one of our righteous deeds is as repugnant as filthy rags in the sight of a Holy Just Jealous God.
