What is Chivalry?
The word “Chivalry” originates from the medieval era. Whereas the Knights had their religious, moral, and social code. These men displayed courage, honor, and justice. A chivalrous man possesses knightly skills. They are sheepdogs who would protect the church and defend the helpless.
The chivalrous man also had a gentle or romantic side, who removed his helmet for the ladies. That is a reason why men today remove their hats when dining at the table. Albeit choosing not to remove your hat at the table is not a sin issue. And just because a man removes his hat does not make him chivalrous. But it’s an issue of common courtesy, decency, respect, and hat etiquette.
Having said all that, chivalry is not limited to the 12th century. A Biblical masculinity would be chivalrous – living by principles of respect, courage, and courtesy. By embracing these values today, we can revive a tradition that glorifies God, honors others, and strengthens our communities.

I’ll never forget the time my Daddy removed my hat at the table (after I ignored his first request). Fast-forwarding to the police academy. I remember how recruits (and sometimes an entire class) were disciplined for a recruit forgetting to remove their cover at the table or counter in the academy restaurant (or anywhere indoors).
