A video entitled ‘A Christians Critique on Ray Comforts “180” Movie,’ regarding the methods Comfort uses
Sadly, today many ‘methods’ of evangelism have become idols, and to some, their evangelists have become idols to them.
Brethren, anytime we’re ‘reasoning’ with the lost, we ought to be reasoning directly from the Scriptures, we must use the Sword of the Lord (the Scriptures). But Comfort by his own admission is an opponent of using the “Bible.”
In Jack Hibbs 2014 interview of Ray Comfort1 , regarding this same 180 Movie, beginning at timestamp 17:10, Comfort –
- Negatively speaks against the use of signage (which have been proven to be fruitful)
- Negatively refers to Biblical ‘preachers’ that lift their voice as “yelling at people”
- Only engages with crowds that will “listen willfully”
- Primarily uses extra-biblical (or unbiblical) methods
- Needs to build a “rapport with people” before evangelizing them (tell that to the Prophets of old, and the Apostles).
As I’ve said before ~
Nowhere in the Scriptures are evangelists (or street preachers) told first to get the world’s permission to preach. Or, to meet them where they’re at. Or, to earn their respect. Nowhere in the Scriptures are Christians told to accommodate the world. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to only preach to crowds that are willing to listen. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to redact, truncate, or replace the preaching of the glorious Gospel with tricks, gimmicks, gadgets, skits, magic, music, entertainment, cash giveaways, gift card giveaways, trivia questions, word games, jokes, or comedy. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to give the heckler a microphone and a box to stand on, so they can blaspheme the Lord and/or use profanity. Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to train women to stand on a box and preach (egalitarianism). We ought to be thankful that evangelists are out there. But when our evangelism efforts become unbiblical, or more man-centric and less Gospel-centric, it’s no longer orthodox Biblical evangelism; it is heterodox pragmatism.
Any good works without the Scriptures being front and center, is humanitarianism, that’s what the U.N. is for. I did not create the below video critique, nonetheless it is important to share.
DISCLAIMER: I sometimes share excerpts from various sermons (or videos) from various professing Christians. However, this does not mean I endorse all views of every person shared here or in other videos on their channel.

I want nothing to do with churches or professing Christians who idolize and endorse Ray Comfort and their way of doing things at Way of the Master ministry. Frankly, I no longer support extra-biblical parachurch ministries.

On January 14th, 2014, I met with EZ Zwayne for a meeting at a restaurant. That meeting was facilitated by a pastor friend of EZ. That pastor told me “I’m indebted to EZ for my salvation.” EZ was then the new Director of WOTM. Apart from discussing evangelism and the methods he believed were right, I told him about a position paper I was working on opposing the sinner’s prayer, which named my former pastor, Greg Laurie, as well as others, and that I would be publishing it on the internet.
.
EZ strongly suggested I don’t publicly share it. When I asked for his reasons, he explained that he personally attributed his faith to pastor Greg Laurie’s sinner’s prayer, stating he was “saved under Greg Laurie’s sinner’s prayer.” For context, Laurie was my pastor in the 80s; however, I later came to question the validity of my own salvation through Laurie’s sinner’s prayer. EZ maintained his conviction that the sinner’s prayer is valid, also noting that their Director of Evangelism, Mark Spence, credits Laurie’s prayer for his own faith. Synergism and Arminianism are erroneous, frankly idolatrous, blasphemous, and heretical.
