The response to Charlie Kirk’s death: Empathy is good, but it can become unbiblical, even contra scriptura
Because love warns (Prov. 27:6, Eph. 5:11), I say these truths with love.
Being empathetic is a good attribute. But when our empathy is untethered from the truths of sound doctrine, that empathy is a worldly emotion. We can say the same with love. There is a Biblical love, and a worldly sensual love. As well as repentance. There is a Biblical repentance, and a worldly repentance (2 Cor. 7:10), and so on.
Since the unfortunate death of political activist Charlie Kirk, I’ve said nothing about it until now.
We see this unbiblical empathy and emotionalism in response to his death, as well as the deaths of previous celebrities. Our emotions can overcome a sound mind. It’s idolatry to say the least.
Since Charlie Kirk’s death two days ago, we have seen Republicans and many professing Christians nearly deifying Kirk. Even knowing Kirk has no problem giving or sharing various platforms with Arminians, Atheists, Mormons, ecumenicalism, false teachers, heretics, homosexuals, and egalitarianism (here, here, here, or here and so on). Kirk also wrongfully teaches the lost world that “Jesus loves” them and atoned for their sins. His universalism and unlimited atonement are heresy. All the while, many Republicans and America’s Christendom empathetically affirm, accept, tolerate, or acquiesce to the aforementioned false teachings and sins.
I say this to men specifically. Frankly, I’m concerned about how some pastors responded on social media.
Men, we are wired differently from ladies. So don’t let your emotions get the best of you. True, we don’t want to be heartless, but we don’t want to be gutless either. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 16:13 (ESV) “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”
I appreciate Matthew Henry on what it means to “act like men.”
“He advises them to act like men, and be strong: “Act the manly, firm, and resolved part: behave strenuously, in opposition to the bad men who would divide and corrupt you, those who would split you into factions or seduce you from the faith: be not terrified nor inveigled by them; but show yourselves men in Christ, by your steadiness, by your sound judgment and firm resolution.” Note, Christians should be manly and firm in all their contests with their enemies, in defending their faith, and maintaining their integrity. They should, in an especial manner, be so in those points of faith that lie at the foundation of sound and practical religion, such as were attacked among the Corinthians: these must be maintained with solid judgment and strong resolution.”

Christian men are not called to be overly empathetic. In short, we are called to be masculine men of courage, to be strong in the Lord, on guard, vigilant, to earnestly contend for the faith, doctrine, and Biblical ecclesiology (Jude 3), and to do so in love. In the meantime, there are many passages that warn and instruct about doctrine; below are two of many. Doctrine matters: don’t be the pronoun that Paul warned about in 2 Timothy 4:3-5.
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
Paul also said in 1 Timothy 4:12-16.
“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
This word “sound” in 2 Timothy 4 is the Greek word hugiainō. It is mentioned 12+ times in the Bible. It means to be safe and sound, to be well, to be in good health. And our opinions would be “free from any mixture of error.”
This word “doctrine” in 1 Timothy 4 is the Greek word didaskalia. It is mentioned 21 times. For men it is an authoritative act to teach, instruction in doctrine and precepts.
Let us not merely believe that God is sovereign in all things at all times, but by faith, let us act like we believe it, let us act like men.
The idolatry and celebrity worship of Charlie Kirk have been sinister. Let us repent from idolizing man. God is a jealous God (Ex. 20:5,34:14), and as I often warn, the judgment of Almighty God is inevitable.
There’s only one man who “changed the world,” that is The Man Christ Jesus. And it’s His perfect life and death that Christians ought to be infatuated with. On yesterday’s Lord’s Day and this morning there was an enormous amount of people asking Christians if their pastors mentioned Charlie Kirk in their sermons. Some even said if he did not mention Kirk, that they should “leave that church.” Thankfully James White posted a rebuke of those Kirk – TPUSA idol worshippers on his X platform. Below is my comment to Whites wise X post.

Well said James White, thank you. Kirk was an ecumenical bridge to other religions who preached an Arminian universal atonement. Though he said he believed in Jesus, which Jesus? He also platformed Mormons, RC’s, homosexuals and egalitarians (aka feminists). Yesterday we visited a church in Tennessee (first time). I am so thankful no one mentioned Kirk once. The sermon and service were all about the Scriptures, Doctrine, and the Lord of the Scriptures. Soli Deo Gloria!
One bit of counsel I’ve given to a few over the years is, “You think too highly of man, and not enough of the Lord.” Last week, I said in a blog post, “We have seen Republicans and many professing Christians nearly deifying Kirk.” Then we saw a long list of Kirk worshippers telling Christians to “leave their church” if their pastor did not include Charlie Kirk in their sermons on Sunday. And now this sinister meme is being shared on social media. I put the red ‘no’ symbol over it. This meme breaks at least two of the Ten Commandments, idolatry and blasphemy. To elevate sinful man to Jesus, or to reduce Christ to their level, or to make them equal, is unspeakable. When (if) a person becomes saved, several things will occur. The Lord will grant them repentance (metanoeō). In short, that Greek word is a verb; it means ‘to change one’s mind.’ They will change their mind about who they are, who fellow mankind are, and they will change their mind about who God is, His Godhead and Word. That man is bad, depraved, evil, wicked, and sinful. And God is Good, Sovereign, Holy & Just. After the death of political activist Charlie Kirk, it’s become painfully more obvious that evangelicalism does not understand the doctrine of sin, man, or death. But I shouldn’t be surprised, the Scripture says the unnatural man cannot understand these things (1 Cor. 2:14). Consequently, I’m seeing a lot of the “He didn’t deserve to die,” or “No one deserves to die” statements. A hermeneutical study of the Scriptures reveals that, due to sin and the fall in the Garden, we all deserve death. We will look at four of many verses on death. They are Romans 6:23, Romans 1:32, James 1:12-15, and Hebrews 9:27. I’m going to examine and judge myself. Not only do I deserve death, I deserve death, judgment, and hellfire. But only by the grace of God will I have eternal life in heaven rather than hell, where I deserve. I deserve a physical death, and the salvation of my soul is not a ‘right’ that I deserve; it’s a gift from the Lord. More in my summary at the end.

Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

This “wages” is the Greek word opsōnion. Which means an allowance and pay that is due, and that will be paid. It is a payment or payday due for sin. It is a rendered payment or wages due to someone.

This “is death” is the Greek word thanatos. Which means, according to my Thayers Greek Lexicon, “the death of the body”, “that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended.”

It also means, “the implied idea of future misery in hell.” It also means “Since the nether world, the abode of the dead, was conceived as being very dark, it is equivalent to the region of thickest darkness, i.e. figuratively, a region enveloped in the darkness of ignorance and sin.”

It also means, “Metaphorically, the loss of that life which alone is worthy of the name.”

Or, “The misery of the soul arising from sin, which begins on earth but lasts and increases after the death of the body in hell.”

Or, “The miserable state of the wicked dead in hell.”

Or, “In the widest sense, death comprising all the miseries arising from sin, as well physical death as the loss of a life consecrated to God and blessed in him on earth, to be followed by wretchedness in hell.”

This “death” is described in Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary as,

“Thanatos (θάνατος, 2288), “death,” is used in Scripture of:
“(a) the separation of the soul (the spiritual part of man) from the body (the material part), the latter ceasing to function and turning to dust, e.g., John 11:13; Heb. 2:15; 5:7; 7:23. In Heb. 9:15, the KJV, “by means of death” is inadequate; the RV, “a death having taken place” is in keeping with the subject. In Rev. 13:3, 12, the RV, “death-stroke” (KJV, “deadly wound”) is, lit., “the stroke of death”:”

Romans 1:32 says “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

This “worthy” is the Greek word axios is an adjective which means, deserving of death, a “due reward.”

Thayer’s Greek Lexicon says “worthy” is,

“1) weighing, having weight, having the weight of another thing of like value, worth as much. 2) befitting, congruous, corresponding to a thing. 3) of one who has merited anything worthy. 3a) both in a good and a bad sense.”

James 1:12-15 says, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

This “bringeth forth” is the Greek word apokueō. It is a verb, which means to breed forth, i.e. (by transference) to generate (figuratively):- to beget, to produce.

Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

This appointed is the Greek word apokeimai. It is a verb which means “to be reserved; figuratively, to await:–be appointed, (be) laid up.”

In summary, as I judge myself. Death is a penal consequence of sin. Because of my atrocious sins and transgressions against God (and against people, too), I deserve death. I’m not even entitled to God’s oxygen that He allows me to breathe, or His water He allows me to drink. But I do deserve death. As I’ve said before. There is nothing good about me except the goodness of God and the righteousness of Christ. I deserve the attempts taken on my life and the unrelated threats later. Though God is not the author of sin, He sovereignly decrees all things to occur. In God’s foreknowledge, He has already decreed the appointment for my death. I don’t know when that is, but He does. Thank you. Though I am Reformed and Calvinist, I am against Arminianism as much as I am Roman Catholicism. Nonetheless, if a church hears the words “Charlie Kirk” from a pulpit, it must be said as you said – warning the flock of Kirk and TPUSA. I’ve warned the people about Charlie Kirk and TPUSA way before his death. I’m saddened to see how many of my alleged reformed friends on Facebook have elevated this man. And so many “reformed” pastors have proven not to be shepherds who protect their flocks, but undiscerning hirelings. As I’ve said before.

When the church gives itself over to politics and political influence, two things are bound to happen. I’m restraining myself from saying more:
1. The true gospel, which is a narrow way, is smothered. It has to be set aside in order to build coalitions with unbelievers.
2. The people of God are changed from objects of our care to objects of our use. They become a means to an end, rather the end themselves. We stop feeding the sheep and instead demand that they produce more wool.
So brethren, watch yourselves, your doctrine, and the voices you allow to influence you. Watch out for those who would feed you sermons to preach while reaching for access to your social media and your mailing list.
No one will protect your sheep if you don’t, and I should become no one’s enemy by speaking the truth.”

My comment.
Pastor Don has been a consistent ‘voice in the wilderness’ in this regard. Yeah, some good does come out of Los Angeles. In this context, many pastors whom I’m internet-connected to have proven to be hirelings rather than shepherds. It just makes me want to throw up. Humm, (scratching my head like Columbo), I think it was the Lord Jesus who said something like that. If they claim to be protestants, did they forget what that word protestant means? Have they forgotten what they’re supposed to be protesting and repenting from? Especially those who are alleged to be reformed, they should know better. As this situation has proven to be most fluid, here’s a compilation of many of my thoughts inputted into various comments.

A growing significant threat to the church today is the two E’s: Ecumenicalism and Egalitarianism (aka feminism). Though we can expect such sinister nonsense from a secular organization like TPUSA. But to see so many alleged Christians support it, join hands with them, and/or share the same platform, is unconscionable. The Scripture is clear about being unequally yoked with unbelievers. TPUSA is also a hub for Arminianism, Atheism, Mormonism, Hinduism, religious pluralism, dispensationalism, NAR heresies, homosexuals, decisional regeneration, and various false teachings. Kirk also wrongfully teaches the lost world that “Jesus loves” them and atoned for their sins. His universalism and unlimited atonement are heresy. And now, undiscerning optimists are molesting the Text claiming Charlie Kirk was a “prophet,” and some are even claiming his death was a fulfillment of prophecy. Run from these false prophets and registered Text offenders. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” – Ephesians 5:11. Whether we call TPUSA a 501(c) or a parachurch ministry, it is a money laundering machine of filthy lucre to platform the aforementioned. Moreover, it is painfully obvious that Charlie Kirk has become a modern-day golden calf. Do not be deceived, for God will not be mocked. God is a jealous God, and the judgment of Almighty God is inevitable.

Matt, thanks for your video presentation. If a pastor invokes those two words, “Charlie Kirk,” from a pulpit, that is the only way it should be done, as a negative, and as a rebuke and warning. The way Kirk molested God’s Word, taking Jesus out of context, while slandering the Lord, was BLASPHEMY. And the way Kirk publicly shamed (gaslighted) the young Christian man who opposed homosexuality was morally reprehensible. For years, I have warned people to run from Charlie Kirk and TPUSA. And way before Trump’s first presidency, I refused to join the MAGA movement. Mainly because of the pro-homosexual and pro-feminist agenda of Kirk, TPUSA, and Trump. Since the death of Kirk, I have lost respect for so many professing Christians whom I personally knew. And the same for the many pastors that have proven to be hirelings, not shepherds. Kirk believed in another Gospel, and so I would never call him a “brother” as many do. The Lord decreed COVID, and consequently, in a sense, that was helpful to separate the sheep from the goats. And perhaps the death of Kirk is going the same way. I recently had breakfast at a small-town diner. While they all wanted to lift the name of Charlie Kirk; as a Christian should do, I turned the light on the darkness. I was told, “If you don’t support Charlie the way we do, you won’t be welcome at our table anymore!” I am thankful to no longer be welcome (Matt 10:34-39, Lk 12:49-56). What I am about to say will even further alienate me from professing believers. It wasn’t until ‘after’ the death of Voddie Baucham that I learned he was currently sharing platforms with Charlie Kirk, as well as sharing microphones with Allie Beth Stuckey. Why Voddie, why? Though I’ve never voted for a Democrat and never will. God’s elect must never republicanize the Lord’s church with what I call their triad of national sin.

Here’s just some of the blasphemy preached at the Charlie Kirk funeral. In just 25 seconds, “pastor” Rob McCoy broke at least 5 of the 10 Commandments. Thou shalt not have gods before me. Thou shalt not be an idolater. Thou shalt not blaspheme the Lord. Thou shalt not lie. And perhaps breaking the Sabbath Day or not keeping it holy as they disperse congregations to gather here and worship their lord and savior, Charlie Kirk.

McCoy should also be considered a registered Text offender, who molests Romans 10:9 out of context. Who preaches a Rob Bell ‘God loves everyone’ the same lie. Who is at least an Arminian, and at most a Pelagian. Who slanders the Lord, supposing He is needy, or who “wants” this, or “He wants you…” He also teaches the heretical well-meant offer of the Gospel (aka the free offer of the Gospel). But one thing he did say that was truthful. He said, “Charlie looked at politics as an onramp to Jesus,” that if you did this, and did that, then you can come to Jesus.

Run from anyone, any church, or any organization that politicizes or nationalizes the church. Or that joins hands with the world. Run from these TPUSA wolves and their ecumenical agenda, run!

I can no longer say that I have assurance in my heart that Charlie Kirk was a true brother in Christ. This brings me no joy, no delight…only deep sorrow.
I have seen with my own eyes videos dating back to 2015 and all the way to the present of him affirming, and even celebrating, what God calls an abomination. Some of these videos Brian and I’d seen parts of before, and we knew that he, along with TPUSA, had affirmed several sodomites as part of their organization. Because of that, we could never support him or TPUSA in any way.
But when he was shot…when he was MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD…I was sucked into the popular narrative that he had been martyred for the faith. For that I publicly repent. He was a martyr for the Republican Party, for MAGA, and possibly for “Conservativism”…but not for our Savior Jesus Christ.

Charlie publicly assured Rob Smith, an open sodomite, with the words, “God loves you. You’re part of this team; we’ve got your back.” After Charlie’s death, Rob called him “my brother in Christ”. Eternal destinies are being affected by his compromise on Scripture.

I recognize that we can’t judge another’s heart but the proof is in the pudding. It’s right there. I believe the idolization of Charlie, of Trump, of the Republican Party…all of it is another huge deceitful work of the enemy. And Christians are buying into it lock, stock, and barrel.
Where’s the discernment? Why are we so easily swayed, and why do we just dismiss the things that concern us…things God says He hates…in order to prop up someone we love and who seems to be doing a great job speaking truth in this dark world? If Charlie was not born from above, it’s not helpful for us to pretend that he was. It’s more loving to expose evil when we see it and to shine the Light of the Gospel into the confusion and depravity of this world God has sovereignly designed for us to be present in…for such a time as this.
I pray and grieve for Charlie’s widow and children; I absolutely condemn his murder, and I want justice for his killer.
And I long for the true Gospel of Jesus Christ…not the compromised, watered down version of the Republican Party and TPUSA…to be proclaimed to the ends of the earth for the glory of our King…because He and only He is worthy of our worship.❤️et

Thank you for your video. Though God is not the author of sin. Almighty God sovereignly decreed these events to occur. Including the trajectory of the bullet that struck Kirk. Perhaps now through the controversy, God’s elect is better able to discern how wicked TPUSA is, and how wicked and pro homosexual some of our own alleged Christian friends are. As I’ve been saying for a long time. The judgment of Almighty God is inevitable. I rejoice in Him. Lord, let Your will be done. In the meantime, His faithful remnant must share His Law and Gospel and make Biblical disciples.

Charlie Kirk has become a 21st-century golden calf to many. And to liken Kirk’s death to the deaths of war veterans is stolen valor.
