Regarding a pending peace plan between Israel & Hamas, and an end to the Gaza War: Trump said, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
Last night, and so far, all morning, every news channel, including CNN and MSNBC, are quoting President Trumps post on Truth Social. Let’s look at that post, and then I’ll address the “Blessed are the peacemakers” that Trump unbiblically proclaimed.

.
Though Trump is clearly not a born-again Christian,1 he often misquotes the Bible. A common malady is that he’s referred to every human in the world as a “child of God,” or “children of God.” But proper hermeneutics tell us that only God’s elect, those who have been adopted into the Kingdom of God, are called children of God. The rest of the lost world are enemies of God, and children of God’s wrath (as I once was).
Back to Trump’s Truth Social post.
The first four words that came out of Trump’s mouth were “I am very proud…” But I’ll let someone else address the pride in that.
Another part of his post that is not directly clear is whether Trump made a deal with Hamas. If so, I thought he said he would not negotiate with terrorists? We’ll have to hear from discerning war strategy and counter terrorism experts on that.
By God’s grace, I will address the most important part to me. His misuse of the first portion of Matthew 5:9, which is,
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Matthew 5:9 is just one short verse in the Beatitudes portion of my favorite sermon preached by my favorite preacher, the Lord Jesus Christ. The proper context of this Sermon on the Mount is chapters five through seven.
The Words of Jesus comes with much exclusivity; it is addressed to the Kingdom of God, not the lost world. Jesus was speaking specifically to His Disciples and other believers then (vs.1), but also to every blood bought follower of Christ today – aka His universal Church, those who belong to His Kingdom of God. His Beatitudes were instructions for His elect. He was concerned about the inward attitude and character of their heart (aka the Beatitude Attitude).
The Republican Party does not belong to the Kingdom of God, America does not belong to this Kingdom of God, the geo-political Nation of Israel does not belong to the Kingdom of God, and the Democrat party certainly does not belong to God’s Kingdom.
Now let’s address “the peacemakers,” who Jesus said would be blessed.
The two areas of God’s Word that were frequently taken out of context among the law enforcement community were Matthew 5:9 and Romans 13:1-5, and the COVID phenomenon proved the latter.
What this “peacemaker” is not.
This “peacemaker” is not a horizontal social reformer. While politicians may be able to foster an environment of external peace, or a policeman may be able to keep the peace, or a nation’s peace plan (or treaty) may cause peace, that horizontal peace is only temporary.
This “peacemaker” is not a cessation of crime, violence, or wars. Jesus foretold us wars are a sign of the end times that we’re currently in (Matt 24:6-8). Though the Lord might providentially hinder evil and provide peace for a season. Oftentimes, mans so-called “peace” is only a Band-Aid.
What this “peacemaker” is.
This “peacemaker” in verse 9 can only be demonstrated by the Lord’s elect; it is they who have been given the privilege of being called the children of God.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” – John 1:12 (NKJV).
These peacemakers in verse 9 are true born-again believers who attempt to reconcile the lost world to God the Father through His Son Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 5:19,20). As the Prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 9:6-7.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
It is these peacemakers who are described in Isaiah 52:7 as having published peace, having beautiful feet.
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”
This “peacemaker” shares the glorious Gospel out in the lost world, trusting the Lord to save His elect.
This peacemaker’s peace is a peace that can only come by the blood of Jesus’ cross. As it says in Hebrews 13:20,
“Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,”
Christ is the only true Peacemaker, but those whom He chose to save will join Him in bringing peace to a lost world, reconciling His elect to His Father.
Sure, it should be a Christians desire to live peacefully with our neighbors, but a horizontal peace is not always possible with all our neighbors, especially those who desire to kill us. Nonetheless, Christians are not to be spectators or sideliners; we’re to be participants in this.
Let’s end with some “Footstooling.”
Though the lost world system does not belong to the kingdom of God, Christ Jesus is the Sovereign King who rules and reigns His Lordship (or Messiahship) over all of the world, and all in it. And all His enemies are subjected under Him as His footstool.
A Facebook friend ‘Chuck’ recently introduced the word “footstooling” to me in a comment.
As the Father says of His Son in Psalm 110:1,
“The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
The unregenerate are the Lord’s footstool, and with full authority, Jesus will victoriously defeat them. His enemies are made His footstool. They will be under Him in complete subjection, and He will crush them like powder and cast them into hellfire. Jesus also fights against and defeats the invisible, cosmic powers of evil. They are all His footstool, awaiting their pending doom and gloom.
Therefore, President Trump, you should refrain from using Christianese in your speeches and posts. Words do matter. Especially when it comes to Theology. Those “Peacemakers” you refer to, who are not God’s elect (born-again), are in fact Christ’s footstool.
Lastly, Christians must have a Biblical Christian worldview. Not a Republican or American worldview.
To know more about God’s Kingdom, and how one might belong to it (Lord willing), read the Good News here or below.
- During his 2016 Presidential campaign, it was clear that Trump was an advocate for the homosexual agenda, and quasi prolife/pro-abortion. He also stated that he has no need for the forgiveness of sin(s), and/or has no need to repent. That is not only unbiblical, but also anti-Gospel and anti-Christ. And since he has been elected, he boasts admitting to being “the most pro-gay President in Americas history,” with the most “pro-gay” White House and Presidential Cabinet in America’s history. ↩︎
