President Trump’s pride in the Venezuela invasion, the profanity, and a Christian response

Though I do not expect any better from an unregenerate man like President Donald Trump. I am seeing a large number of professing Christians liking, loving, commenting in agreement, and/or sharing the below meme, recently published by our White House. Let it be duly noted that one of the many things God “hates” is pride, and it is an abomination.

I do not know much about foreign policy and international law. But I am for thwarting drugs from entering our nation and bringing those international criminals to justice. Immediately after Trump ordered our military and law enforcement to “surgically” bomb Venezuela and capture their President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, I posted this on X and Facebook.

“As biblically critical as I am of President Trump and his advocacy of what I call his Triad of National Sin, I must give credit where it’s due. His policy to eradicate drugs coming into America is far better and more efficacious than President Ronald Reagan and his wife’s “Just say no” campaign. Nonetheless, I still stand by my conviction to not vote for him; hence my ‘write-in’ choice with the words – “Come, Lord Jesus come!”

Having said that. What I did not see until after posting the above was the sinful pride, arrogance, and profanity of Trump and Secretary Hegseth.

Trump also later boasted, saying “We’re in charge” of Venezuela, and “We’re gonna run the country [Venezuela] until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.” Frankly, that sounds more like a political coup to me. Trump has already shared his covetous desire to acquire Canada and Greenland, and now this temporary takeover of Venezuela. In my opinion, we have no business engaging in another regime change in another country.

And let’s not ignore our own hypocrisy. Though bringing an international “Narco-Terrorist” to justice is good. What about our own American-born Narco-Terrorists? I’ve engaged in urban warfare with our own citizens, manufacturing drugs in crack houses and meth labs in our own cities. I’ve seen the bloodshed of citizens and police officers. I’ve known what coagulated blood looks like on a wool uniform shirt or the pants of an LAPD Cop. Even after moving to Tennessee (a “red state”), a Private Investigator told me he found evidence of a former Meth Lab in my own small town of 700. However, in my opinion, there’s no political capital to be gained from those arrests. I guess, in my opinion, that’s not newsworthy enough to distract from the Epstein list. Or, in my opinion, to boost the Republican Party’s declining approval rating before the midterm election. Moving on, the following is not my opinion.

Back to the sins of pride and profanity, as well as the aforementioned White House meme.

Abbreviating profanity, i.e., “FAFO,” is still sinful profanity, and the profanity only adds insult to, or compounds the sin of pride.

To the professing Christians who are approving and sharing that meme. Paul warned the church in Ephesians 5:4-6,

“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.”

Interestingly, the words filthiness, foolish talking, and jesting are all hapax legomenon’s.

As my BDAG Lexicon says (a summarization).

This “filthiness” (aischrotēs) in the Greek is “behavior that flouts social and moral standards, shamefulness, obscenity.”

This “foolish” talk (mōrologia) in the Greek is “foolish/silly talk.”

This “jesting” (eutrapelia) in the Greek is “mostly in a good sense: ‘wittiness’, ‘facetiousness’ [cp. our ‘turn a phrase’]; so also Posidipp… It is the middle term between the extremes of buffoonery [βωμολοχία] and boorishness [ἀγροικία];… “

This is where the Lord’s people need to be salt and light. While honoring the office of the presidency. We need to expose this sin, not ‘like’ it and share it in agreement. And while exposing sin, Christians should not engage in personal attacks. But it would be Biblical to call them what the Scriptures say they are. Immoral, shameful, filthy, foolish, obscene, silly, sinners who engage in facetious buffoonery.

Below are a few of many verses warning of pride.

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate.” – Proverbs 8:13

“Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” – Proverbs 16:5

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18; xref. James 4:6)

“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” – Proverbs 6:16-19

“For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.” – Psalm 5:4-6

Let me make this very clear. Because of our nation’s sinister pride from the top. The Lord in His Holy anger might decree the same to happen to us, an invasion by another country. Let us never forget December 7, 1941, when Japan invaded us.

As Matthew Henry said regarding Prov. 16:16,

“Note, 1. Pride will have a fall. Those that are of a haughty spirit, that think of themselves above what is meet, and look with contempt upon others, that with their pride affront God and disquiet others, will be brought down, either by repentance or by ruin. It is the honour of God to humble the proud, Job 40:11, 12. It is the act of justice that those who have lifted up themselves should be laid low. Pharaoh, Sennacherib, Nebuchadnezzar, were instances of this. Men cannot punish pride, but either admire it or fear it, and therefore God will take the punishing of it into his own hands. Let him alone to deal with proud men. 2. Proud men are frequently most proud, and insolent, and haughty, just before their destruction, so that it is a certain presage that they are upon the brink of it. When proud men set God’s judgments at defiance, and think themselves at the greatest distance from them, it is a sign that they are at the door; witness the case of Benhadad and Herod. While the word was in the king’s mouth, Dan. 4:31. Therefore let us not fear the pride of others, but greatly fear pride in ourselves.”

As I say so often. The judgment of Almighty God is inevitable.
